The JSFS is on the Hollywood Reporter list of 15 best film schools outside the US for the third year in a row

The JSFS is the only Israeli film school on this prestigious list - in addition to being included on the 2019 Variety list

The Hollywood Reporter focused on the Sam Spiegel Alumni Jerusalem Trilogy which will be screened at MoMA in March 2020 and in additional key cinema venues around the world

The leading film magazine The Hollywood Reporter, published this weekend its annual list of the 15 best film schools outside the US. For the third year in a row, the JSFS is included in this prestigious list alongside well-regarded film schools such as La Femis (France), Munich Film School (Germany), NFTS (United Kingdom), Lodz National Film School (Poland) and the Beijing Film Academy (China).

The magazine highlights celebrations around the world of the JSFS 30th anniversary, focusing on the Jerusalem Sam Spiegel Alumni Trilogy - three full length films curated by Founding Director Renen Schorr with School alumni as tributes to seminal Israeli shorts of the 1960s. The three films, made over a period of six years (2013-19) are Footsteps in Jerusalem, a tribute to In Jerusalem by David Perlov; Voice Over, a tribute to Avraham Heffner's Slow Down; and The Voice of Ahmad, a tribute to the first Israeli short to feature an Arab protagonist. As of 2020, the entire 4½ hours will be screened as a theatrical event (with intermissions) in cinematic capitals of the world.

The Voice of Ahmad, a tribute to I am Ahmad by Avshalom Katz and Ram Loevy premiered to rave reviews at the 2019 DocAviv Film Festival. The film will have a theatrical run in Israel during September 2019 - including a premiere in Uhm el Faham at the only cinema for the Arab sector in Israel, and in the presence of protagonist Ahmad Masrawa.

JSFS Founding Director Renen Schorr said: "the Sam Spiegel Alumni Jerusalem Trilogy, and especially The Voice of Ahmad, is a very moving project. 140 alumni and students worked over the last 8 years to pay tribute to the great Israeli shorts of the 1960s. The event at MoMA will be a double tribute-both to great Israeli shorts of the 1960 and to the JSFS. In 1996 MoMA also held a tribute to the School, signifying it as one of the best storytelling schools in the world, not only for shorts, but in a way that was a break from Israeli cinema until that point. Now, with the benefit of hindsight, this proves to be truer than ever".
