The Sam Spiegel International Film Lab Has appointed a new director – Aurit Zamir

Ms. Zamir is a producer, director and screenwriter, graduate of the Jerusalem Sam Spiegel Film School and head of the entrepreneurial producing track at the school since 2018.

The Sam Spiegel International Film Lab is the only film lab initiated and run by a film school. The JSFL was established in 2011 by Jerusalem Sam Spiegel Film School founding director Renen Schorr, and within eight years has become a significant player in the development of first and second feature films by filmmakers with a unique voice from Israel and the world. Films developed at the JSFL have been screened at leading international festivals including Cannes (Academy Award winner Son of Saul, The Kindergarten Teacher, Run, One Week and A Day); Tribeca (We are Young, We are Strong, I Dream in Another Language); Berlin (Red Cow, The Black Frost); Venice (Acusada, Banat); Sundance (Imperial Dreams, Photograph) and Toronto (Fig Tree).

The JSFL provides the selected projects personal mentoring with leading Israeli and international script editors, with whom they work for an intensive period of seven months. At the end of the development process, the projects are presented to an audience of some of the most important decision makers from around the globe and the Israeli film industry, in order to advance their funding. Outstanding projects win production grants and editing support.

The JSFL is supported by our longstanding partners including the Beracha Foundation, Mifal Hapayis, the Jerusalem Foundation, the Sam Spiegel Foundation, the Jerusalem Film Fund. Additional support has been given by the Israel Film Council, and the Rabinovich Foundation for the Arts.

JSFL Lab director Aurit Zamir is an active Israeli film producer and owner of Gum Films. She and her partner Yoav Roeh, have produced narrative and documentary feature films as well as series, including The Testament (Venice FF, Haifa FF Best Film), Manpower (Palm Springs, Haifa FF- Fedeora Film Critics Prize), Off White Lies (Berlinale Generation, Annonay FF Best Film), Asia (Residence du Cannes, winner of Sam Spiegel alumni fund). A graduate of the Jerusalem Sam Spiegel Film School, Aurit is also the head of production studies at the JSFS. In January 2020 she was appointed director of the JSFL.
